Erosion and Sedimentation
PA Laws Require Best Management Practices.
Under Pennsylvania law, earth disturbance activities relative to new construction projects are required to utilize Best Management Practices (BMPs) to minimize negative impacts to our water resources. The size and scope of the BMPs and required planning for the construction project is relative to the amount of proposed earth disturbance.
The Erosion & Sedimentation Control Department (E&S Department) in Lancaster County partners with other state and federal agencies to facilitate and administer the Chapter 102 program of the Clean Water Act. Through this program, the E&S Department also works with developers, landowners, engineers, and municipalities, collectively known as the “regulated community,” to protect the water quality of our streams, wetlands, and other water bodies throughout the duration of earth disturbance activities.
